ACADEMIC GRIEVANCE – Student Academic Grievance
Procedure provides a formal channel through which complaints concerning
academic matters may be heard. For more information, contact Office of

BURSAR’S OFFICE – Payment of fees may be
mailed to the Bursar’s or presented at the cashier windows, 227
Meshel Hall (ext. 3133)
STUDENT TUTORIAL SERVICES (SI) - Provides academic
support through tutoring in the 1500- and 2600-level courses. This tutoring
assistance for lower division courses (exclusive of those served by the
Math Assistance Center, Reading Lab, Writing Center, and Foreign Language
Lab) is available to students referred by faculty or academic advisors
or to students applying as self-referrals. These services are free to
all currently enrolled students.
SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION SERVICES (SI) - Provides free
after-class study sessions in selected courses. Sessions are facilitated
by an SI leader who previously took the course and was recommended by
the professor. Students develop skills on how to learn, as well as what
to learn. Informal, voluntary SI sessions allow students to: compare notes,
develop study tools, discuss readings, and prepare for tests.
CLASS ABSENCE - If you are going to be absent more
than three (3) days, call the Office of the Registrar (Ext. 3178). A notice
will be issued to each of your professors. When you return to school,
it is your responsibility to arrange with each professor to make up the
work missed. Provisions for missed tests must be arranged with individual
instructors.
COMPUTERS (Bytes ‘n Pieces) - Located on the
upper level of Kilcawley Center, features state-of-the-art computers.
Available programs include Microsoft Office 2000 Professional Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and Publisher. Also included are AutoCAD, SPSS, Internet Explorer,
Netscape Communicator, and 3270 Emulation (SOLAR and SID access). Open
to all YSU students with a valid ID. Quality laser printing is available
for 10 cents per page. Floppy disks are available for purchase. There
are an additional 11 computers in the Reading Lounge next to Bytes and
Pieces set up primarily for Internet access, though other programs (Microsoft
Office) are available. Bytes ‘n Pieces (Ext. 3516) is open six days
a week and is fully staffed by computer-proficient students who can help
you with questions on various software. Hours of operation are from 8
a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Student computer facilities are
also located in Meshel Hall and Williamson Hall where Computer Center
staff will assist you in the use of the equipment and software. For assistance
in Meshel Hall, ask a student programming consultant located right outside
the labs to help you with problems. You may also call the Help Desk (Ext.
1595), or call the main office of the Computer Center (Ext. 3036).
COMPUTER LABS (WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF BUSINESS) - The
Williamson College of Business Administration has three computer labs
located on the 4th floor in Williamson Hall: Rooms 402, 404, and 415.
The facilities in Williamson Hall provide the following software: Windows
2000, Microsoft Office 2000, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Snapshot
Viewer, and Photo Editor. Other programs also included are: Netscape,
IE, Adobe Acrobat 4.0, Aladin Expander 5.0, Arena 3.0, Insight, Peachtree,
SPSS 8.0, Team EC, and Oracle. Student lab Assistants are available to
answer questions and assist with basic information. For advanced computer
assistance, please see your instructor. The Williamson College of Business
Administration computer lab facilities also offer general computer mini-sessions
held throughout the semester open to students, faculty and staff, unless
otherwise noted. See the computer lab assistant in room 404 for more information.
COPY SERVICES - The Graphic Center and COMDOC’s
Copy Services offer a full range of resume paper, astrobright colors,
pastel papers and, of course, white. Two-sided copies, collated reports
and bulk orders are welcome. The Graphic Center (Ext. 3560), located on
the lower level of Kilcawley Center is open Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m.
to 6:00 p.m. and Fridays until 5:00 p.m. and COMDOC also located on the
lower level of Kilcawley Center is open Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. For more information, call (Ext. 3690).
DAY CARE - A newly renovated day care center was dedicated
on June 9, 2000 in Fedor Hall. The Wee Care Day Care Center will house
125 children, ages six weeks through 10 years. Hours of operation are
from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Priority for acceptance is given to children
of YSU students, with reduced rates based on income. For more information,

DISABILITY SERVICES - Located in the Beeghly College
of Education, Room 3310, this office delivers basic support services to
students with disabilities. Any YSU student with a documented permanent
or temporary disability may register with this office. Service for eligible
students may include testing assistance, interpreters, use of a lounge
for students with disabilities, advocacy, on- and off- campus referrals,
registration assistance, classroom accommodations, limited reading and
research assistance, and access to some forms of adapted equipment. For

EMPLOYMENT - The Office of Career Services, located
at 1034 Jones Hall (Ext. 3515) provides services, resources, and information
to meet the career development and placement needs of YSU students and
alumni. Placement related resources include: job postings for on-and-off
campus employment, listings for career and professional employment opportunities;
an on-campus recruiting program, and annual career fairs. Individual career
planning/placement counseling, workshops and resources are provided to
help individuals in planning and implementing effective job search strategies,
develop quality resumes and marketing materials, and prepare for employment

ESCORT SERVICE - Escort service to and from parking lots,
between buildings on campus, and to the near North Side is available by
calling (Ext. 1515) or by stopping by the YSU Police Department on the
corner of Rayen and Fifth Avenues. Escorts are available from 7 a.m. to
11:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.
The exception is summer semester, when escorts are available on a limited
basis. Special arrangements can be made for those with disabilities. No
escorts are available during break week unless previous arrangements are
made.

FINAL EXAMS - The final exam schedule for each semester
is in the Schedule of Classes. You should consult with your instructor
regarding the final exam for each of your classes.
FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS OFFICE - The University
has a comprehensive program of financial assistance which includes scholarships,
loans, grants-in-aid, and college work study (student employment). These
programs are administered by the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships
in Meshel Hall, 2nd floor (Ext. 3505).
FOREIGN LANGUAGE LAB - The Language Learning &
Resource Center provides tutorial assistance to any YSU student currently
enrolled in specified courses. Computerized language grammar drills are
available to any YSU student for independent study. The Center is located

HEALTH INSURANCE - Contact Student Health Services,
Kilcawley Center, First Floor (Ext. 3489).
HONORS PROGRAM - For information, contact Dr. Ronald
Shaklee, Cafaro House (Ext. 4741/2772), or visit the YSU web site and
click on the Honor’s Program icon. Honors courses are available
to qualified students.
HOUSING (On-Campus) - The University offers four resident houses
for on-campus living: Cafaro House, Kilcawley House, Lyden House, and
Weller House. Information on YSU’s residential campus community
and an application for housing is available by stopping in the Housing
Services Office on the first floor of Kilcawley House adjacent to Kilcawley
Center or by calling Ext. 3547. Off-campus housing: Housing Services can
provide you with a list of privately-owned residential homes and apartment/housing
vacancies in the area (Ext. 3547).
ID CARD - Each student receives a photo ID card upon
registering for the first time. This ID card is used for University identification
and all registration activity through the Registrar’s Office (Ext.
3178). A lost or stolen ID card must be reported to the YSU Police. To
replace the ID card, go the Registrar’s Office and present proper
ID. There is a $20 fee for this service.
INTRAMURALS - More than 90 different sports are available
for men and women, and co-ed teams and individual sports. For more information
contact the Intramural Recreation Office, 200 Beeghly Center (Ext. 3488).
KILCAWLEY CENTER - Kilcawley Center is the heart of
the University community for students, faculty, staff and alumni. The
Center provides many services, conveniences and gathering places outside
the traditional classroom.
LIBRARY (MAAG) - The William F. Maag, Jr. Library provides
references, government documents, inter-library loans, OhioLINK direct
borrowing, database searching, and other services necessary to the University
community. For hours of operation, contact the Library at Ext. 3675.
LOCKERS - Lockers are available in Cushwa Hall, Moser
Hall and Ward Beecher Science Hall. You may rent a locker for a fee with
a valid YSU ID at Bytes ‘n Pieces (Ext. 3516) located on the upper
level of Kilcawley Center. The University assumes no responsibility for
property stored in a locker.
LOST AND FOUND - Lost your car keys, umbrella, gloves
or book bag? Kilcawley Bytes ‘n Pieces (Ext. 3516), located on the
upper level of Kilcawley, is the University’s central location for
lost and found items.
MATHEMATICS ASSISTANCE CENTER - Tutorial assistance
is provided for 1500 and 2600 (up to 2652) level math classes. For specific
information, contact the Mathematics Assistance Center, Cushwa Hall, room
3090 (Ext. 3274).
MOTORISTS’ ASSISTANCE - Although they are not
mechanics, they would be happy to assist you with car problems. Their
on-campus services include: jump starts, lockouts, and the loan of lug
wrenches, and gas cans. Assistance is available by calling Ext. 3051.
PARKING CONCERNS - Parking fines are paid at the Bursar’s
payment windows in Meshel Hall. Appeal forms are available at Kilcawley’s
Bytes ‘n Pieces, the YSU Police Office and Parking Services, Smith
Hall (Ext. 3546).
PAYMENT OF FEES - Semester statements of account are
mailed to preregistered students. Payment should be made by mail. If you
have any questions, contact the Bursar’s Office, 227 Meshel Hall
(Ext. 3133).
SEMESTER GRADE REPORT - Approximately one week after
the semester ends, a grade report is sent to each student showing the
semester’s grades and accumulated averages. If you have any questions
concerning your grade report, contact the Records Office, 1013 Jones Hall
(Ext. 3182).
READING AND STUDY SKILLS CENTER - Help is available
in determining your personal reading level, analyzing study habits, and
planning a program of individual instruction to improve your reading and/or
study skills. Work is provided in areas of note taking, text reading,
taking exams, concentration, memory, speed, vocabulary, and comprehension.
For ESL students, help is provided in Conversation Group. The Center is
located in 3312 Beegley College of Education. Call (Ext. 3099) for current
hours.
RECREATION - Campus Recreation facilities are available
free of charge to all enrolled students and, in the case of the Beeghly
pool, their immediate family members. ID cards are to be carried and shown
on request while you are either in Beeghly Center or Stambaugh Stadium.
REGISTRAR’S OFFICE - The Registrar’s Office
processes all student registrations and changes of registration, the semester
reports, and the semester Schedule of Classes. In addition, office and
advisor copies of student transcripts, photo ID cards, and enrollment
verifications are prepared in this office (Ext. 3178).
RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES - A copy of The Code is available
from the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, 141 Tod Hall
(Ext. 3532) or at the Information Desk in Kilcawley Center.
ROTC - MILITARY SCIENCE - The Reserve Officers Training
Corps (ROTC) is a series of elective courses available to YSU students
who want to develop their leadership potential and better prepare for
post college careers. Enrolling in the courses can take place at any time
as long as the student has two years of school remaining. The Department
of Military Science is located in Stambaugh Stadium, room 1112 (Ext. 3205).
STUDENT GOVERNMENT - The student body of YSU is represented
by Student Government which operates under constitutional powers granted
by the University. The legislative branch is composed of representatives
from the six undergraduate units. Student Government Offices are located
in Kilcawley Center, 2nd floor (Ext. 3591).
STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES - Located on the first floor
in Kilcawley Center, Student Health Services is staffed by registered
nurses. Physicians are on duty four hours a day, Monday - Friday, during
the regular academic year and are available for three hours, one day a
week, during break periods and summer term. Students are seen on an appointment
basis and can make arrangements by calling (330) 941-3489. All services
provided for students are strictly confidential. For on-campus medical
emergencies, call Ext. 911.
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS or STUDENT ACTIVITY OFFICE -
Information about student organizations, activities, fraternities, sororities,
and sports clubs are available from the Student Activities Director (Ext.
3579) located in the Kilcawley Staff Office, upper-level Kilcawley Center,
room 2100.
TEST INFORMATION - Composition Placement Test and/or
the COMPASS Math and Reading Tests - contact Amy Reese in the Registrar’s
Office, Meshel Hall, room 243 (Ext. 1343). ACT, Professional and Graduate
School - Test application forms and testing dates for tests such as the
ACT, MAT, GRE, CLEP, and PRAXIS are available from the Testing Center,
3107 Beeghly College of Education (Ext. 3175).
TRANSCRIPTS - Contact the Records Office at ext. 3182,
or ext. 3184 for a recording with step by step instructions on how to
secure transcripts.
WRITING CENTER - Located in Room 3002 Coffelt Hall
(Ext. 3055). Call for current hours. The Writing Center offers one-to-one
tutoring on a regular basis or as needed, evaluation of strengths in writing
skills, reference materials, workshops, and one-to-one computer-aided
assistance on the World Wide Web, word processing, and Microsoft Word.
YSU POLICE - University Police (Ext. 3527), located
on the corner of Wood Street and Fifth Avenue, is open 24 hours a day.
For emergency service, call 911. Campus emergency phones are located throughout
the campus for calling the YSU Police for help and assistance.
